Hi, I’m Julie, and I produce audio stories — from dramas to documentaries and everything in between. I love stories about unique characters, complicated choices, and things that aren’t always what they seem.

My audio work has appeared on BBC Radio 4, Minnesota Public Radio, KFAI 90.3 FM, and at festivals and listening events around the world. I currently produce the Moth StorySLAM for the Twin Cities and edit the award-winning MinneCulture podcast. I was a 2023 Finalist for Best New Artist at the Third Coast International Audio Festival for my audio documentary, Old Tapes. I have also worked as a field producer, production manager, and line producer on multiple Emmy-winning productions for Twin Cities PBS.

I live in Minneapolis with my really good cat. Her name is Bird, thanks for asking.

What if a Minneapolis wetland — suppressed by a century of urban development — came back to haunt us? The Haunting of Nokomis is an experimental docu-fiction series by Julie Censullo and Gabriel Rodreick.

Runner up at the 2024 RESONATE Podcast Festival Pitch Party.

Currently in production.

We often associate movement with life. We say something is alive when we see it wiggle or twitch or run. But what about a body that can't move? To answer this question, artist Gabriel Rodreick visits a place that is known for its tranquility, as well as its liveliness: a bog.

This piece explores the mystery, murkiness, and movement that exists in stillness. It is also an abstract exploration of the experience of living with spinal cord injury and paralysis.

Originally aired on BBC Radio 4’s Short Cuts and featured on In the Dark’s What’s New?

MinneCulture is KFAI’s award-winning audio storytelling program. We produce audio documentaries exploring Minnesota’s art, culture, and history — stories about musical sensations, small town heroes, cultural icons, local lore, and more.

MinneCulture is produced by audio producers from around Minnesota and is edited and executive produced by Julie Censullo. Season 6 was awarded Best Podcast at the 2023 Minnesota Society of Professional Journalism Page One Awards.

Lucha libre is a style of Mexican wrestling that blends acrobatics, combat, and classic narrative tropes of good and evil to engage audiences. One local company, Rudos Promotions, brings lucha libre matches to northeast Minneapolis once a month and provides training to new wrestlers during the week. Owner Jesus De La Torre hopes to inspire the next generation of luchadores in Minnesota.

This story won second place for Feature Reporting (Radio) at the 2024 Minnesota Society of Professional Journalism Page One Awards.

An audio documentary about family, grief, and….audio documentary.

Julie's dad rarely talks about his older brother David, despite the fact that he loves to share family stories. But when her dad started digitizing old tapes from his childhood, Julie decided to ask about David for the first time.

Old Tapes was a finalist for Best New Artist at the 2023 Third Coast International Audio Festival.

A quick audio sketch of a sad weekend and a lingering task.

Originally produced for the Short Packages Audio Feature Course taught by Jules Bradley and Talia Augustidis. Published on Emily Shaw’s Candy Ears and featured at the 2025 On-Air Festival.

A comedy storytelling podcast for dark times (both figuratively and literally) (because podcasting is not a visual medium!) (....get it?). Produced and hosted by Julie Censullo, Funny Stories to Tell in the Dark is part storytelling showcase, part COVID-19 quarantine diary.
